Voici la proposition pour le nouveau format des championnat d'ultimate. Merci d'avance pour vos commentaires...

Belgian frisbee Championships

This document provides a summary of the championship proposals explained at the BUOC weekend to all teams present. This document provides a base to start from for the necessary restructuring of the national championships. A thorough re-evaluation of the system, spotting holes and inconsistencies, should happen every couple of years. This would be the main task of the Championship Committee as workgroup of the BUFF.

Bids and Calendar

A template for hosting bids will be provided. These bids contain all information crucial to deciding the locations of the championships. Teams should send in their bids at least 6 months before the start of the tournament. The calendar should be fixed, so every team can organize his year according to the calendar. The calendar in this proposal has taken the focus on getting the best Open and Women teams in perfect shape for the outdoor regionals.

Indoor

Open and Mixed

This format has remained the same as the last couple of years and there are no complaints. We would advise to keep it as it is.

Women

At the moment this tournament isn’t really included in the normal indoor scene. Since we don’t want the ladies having to choose between the Mixed and the Women competition, we can’t just add the Women division. But we do want the best teams to fight for the title at the BU(W)IC final weekend. For this reason, we want to organize a qualification day where the spots for the Finals day can be earned. Depending on the amount of teams interested, this qualification day will consist of a round robin or two pools. The semi-finals and finals will be played during the final weekend. When more than 14 teams want to participate, we can either consider going to the BUIC and BUMIC format with multiple days and points to be gained or just make a third pool for the beginner teams. The winners from this beginner poule can then go up to the qualification poules the year after.

Beach

At the moment this format is working as it is. We might investigate the possibility of adding a mixed and a women division.

Outdoor

Mixed

For now we propose a simple tournament format. Depending on the number of teams interested, this will exist of a round robin or two poules with semi-finals and finals. If more teams start to participate a beginner poule where beginner teams will start can be created. The winners from this beginner poule can then go up to the qualification poules the year after.

Open

The BUOC format at the moment has several flaws. The main issues are the crossovers to switch divisions and because of those crossovers between divisions to find locations where all teams can play together.

The proposed format is based on divisions of 7 teams. The last division will be optimised to give them as much as possible playing chances. This means every location with two pitches could enter a hosting bids. When more fields are available, multiple divisions can be hosted at one spot. During the first weekend every division plays a round robin, with every team playing 6 games of 60 minutes to get a ranking.

After this first weekend the ranking of the divisions is made. The top 4 of the 1st division will go to the “Finals Weekend”, all the other teams go to the “Lower Division Finals Weekend”. The format and the date of these two weekends will differ.

The “Lower Division Finals Weekend” looks very similar to the first weekend. What we see is a shifting in the divisions. The numbers 5-6-7 of 1st division and the numbers 1-2-3-4 of 2nd division will form division A. 5-6-7 of 2nd division and 1-2-3-4 of 3rd division will form division B etc… The last division will be optimized to provide as many playing chances for those teams. They play a round robin of 6 games of 60 minutes again for placement. The team winning division A will thus end 5th in the total ranking. For the seeding the year after, we have a look at the total ranking. It will thus be possible for three teams from the lower division to rise to the next. The champion of 2nd division will be the team starting in 2nd division that ranks highest on the total ranking after two weekends.

The “Finals Weekend” will be organized closer to the regionals to make sure the best teams of the moment go to the regionals and to allow those teams to play preparation tournaments. The BUWOC might be hosted at the same location and date (see later). The system for the Final Weekend will remain the same as this year. The points of the first weekend remain and every win during the finals weekend will gain two points. A finals and a finals for 3rd place will finish the tournament.

Women

Since almost no female players are playing in the top 4 teams of the open championship and to boost visibility and level of the BUWOC, we want to organize the BUWOC together with the Finals Weekend. If the number of teams increases, we might decide to expand this championship to a first qualification weekend before the finals weekend here.

Separating the BUWOC from the lower BUOC divisions will increase the number of teams participating because the female players don’t have to choose between playing BUOC and BUWOC. Depending on the teams participating, we can go for a round robin or two poules with semi-finals and finals.
